    You can choose from multiple standard height options, ranging from 800 mm up to 2100 mm (when raised). Widths go up to 2200 mm per panel, depending on conditions.

  • Does the system meet UK building regulations?

    Yes. Alu Flex is CE-marked and tested to meet BS 6180 standards for glass barriers in the UK.

  • What’s the difference between laminated and toughened laminated glass?

    Laminated glass is made of two bonded sheets with a plastic interlayer – it stays intact even if cracked. Toughened laminated glass offers extra strength and is best for windy or public areas.

  • Can I install this system myself?

Width

Moveable Glass

As standard, the movable glass sections are 6 mm laminated safety glass and the fixed glass sections are 6 mm laminated safety glass.

Aluminum Rail

As standard, the barrier comes with an aluminum rail that protects the horizontal edges of the glass.

Sanded Glass Edges

When designing your railing, you can choose to have a ground glass finish along the horizontal edges of the glass.

Glass Choice

Clear glass Opal glass has a whitish film between the panes, for extra privacy. Opal is also known as ‘frosted glass’.

Clamp Support

When using a clamp support, the barrier must be installed 25 mm from the edge of a wooden base and 50 mm from the edge of a concrete base. Both clamp screw holes must be used.

Balcony Support

A balcony support is installed close to the edge of the balcony base. The screws are fastened through the lower holes of the balcony support and through the top hole that is furthest from the edge of the base.

Screw for Wood Attachment

If you choose attachment to a wooden substrate, screws are included for this purpose. The screw is made of hardened steel and, in outdoor environments, also surface-treated with Corrseal – Corrosivity class C4. The screw is equipped with a milling groove along the stem and one on the tip. This means a very low screwing torque in harder wooden materials and minimizes cracking. The screw is 80 mm long with a torx grip, bits are of course included in your order. When fixing in materials other than wood or concrete, we recommend that you contact your local hardware store.

Screw for Concrete Attachment

If you choose attachment to a concrete substrate, screws are included for this purpose. The screw is made of hardened steel and, in outdoor environments, also surface-treated with Corrseal – Corrosivity class C4. The concrete screw is 90 mm long and is screwed directly into the pre-drilled hole without a plug using a 10 mm key, which is of course included in your order. Approved for base material cracked concrete, uncracked concrete & perforated decks. Also suitable for solid brick, hollow brick, solid mexite brick and natural stone. When fixing in materials other than wood or concrete, we recommend that you contact your local hardware store.

Everything is Included with Your Order

The package you receive from us includes everything you need to assemble your barriers. This includes posts, glass and handrails, as well as all screws, drill bits and special tools. All you need is a screwdriver, wrench, ruler and spirit level

Assembly Videos and Instructions

Glass

Use a soft cloth to clean glass surfaces with window or mirror cleaning fluid. For more difficult stains, rubbing alcohol can be used. Afterwards, clean with window and mirror cleaning fluid for a second time. Do not use abrasive agents on glass.

When you’re designing your balustrade, the usage class (A, B or C) gives an indication of where it’s suitable to use. Classes are based on UK Building regulations as specified by the British Standards Institution (see below), combined with our internal product tests, and take into account your specifications regarding balustrade height, section width, details, etc. They’re our recommendations to help you make the right choice! Outdoor Existing Buildings: minimum 1100 mm railing height Indoor Existing Buildings: minimum 900 mm railing height Residential environments: 0.74 kN/m Public areas: 1.5 kN/m Arenas/shopping centres: 3 kN/m Our balustrade solutions are CE marked, indicating they comply with relevant EU directives concerning health, safety, and environmental protection.

CLASS A

A Class A-rated railing meets the requirements specified above and is therefore suitable for use in all types of residential environments as well as public spaces such as offices, restaurants, and shops. Our Class A-rated railings withstand at least 0.74 kN/m in linear load, and in cases where the railing includes glass, it is safety glass designed to prevent injuries in case of impact.

CLASS B

Class B railings are suitable for use in environments where the level difference from floor to ground is 0-1 meter. Our Class B-rated railings withstand at least 0.5 kN/m in linear load, and in cases where the railing includes glass, it is safety glass designed to prevent injuries in case of impact.

CLASS C

C-rated railings are suitable for use at ground level. In cases where the railing includes glass, it is safety glass designed to prevent injuries in case of impact. A railing may become C-rated if Balustradedesign, together with you as the customer, makes a modification to the railing that deviates from our standard. C-rated indicates that this specific configuration has not been tested.
