An vertical awning is an exterior sunshade that runs vertically in front of windows, glass doors, and other glass surfaces. It blocks a large portion of the sun's rays before they reach the glass, thereby reducing both heat and glare indoors while allowing natural light and some of the view to remain.
It works particularly well on south- and west-facing windows, large glazed areas, balcony doors and conservatories. The screen fabric reduces visibility from outside during the day, but does not provide complete privacy. On models where the fabric runs closely within the side channels, the awning also helps to keep insects out.
Vertical awnings are available in motorised, solar-powered and integrated-lighting versions. They all work in the same way: the fabric runs vertically in front of the glazing, reducing solar heat gain and glare before sunlight reaches the window. The best option depends on the window dimensions, its location and how you want to operate the awning.
A motorised awning is operated using a remote control or another compatible control system and is suited to locations where a mains connection is readily available. A solar-powered awning does not need to connect to the building's electrical system, which simplifies installation. The version with LED lighting built into the cassette suits balconies and conservatories used in the evening.
The price of a vertical awning depends mainly on its dimensions, operating system, fabric and the number ordered. As each awning is made to measure, there is no single price for every size. The configurator shows the current price when you select the dimensions and version.
Larger awnings need more materials and fabric, while motorised or solar-powered operation also affects the price. Fabric, colour, model and the number of windows to be shaded all play a part. Configure several awnings together to see the total project price and compare sizes and specifications.
Start with simple checks before adjusting or dismantling anything. Make sure the awning has power, replace the remote-control battery and look for anything obstructing the fabric or arms. Never force the awning open or closed, as this can damage the fabric, arms or motor.
If you can hear the motor but the awning does not move, there may be a problem with the drive or another mechanical component. On manual awnings, check that the crank and gearbox are working and that nothing has come loose. If the awning repeatedly stops or jams, contact us with your order number, photographs and a brief description so we can help you troubleshoot.

Sensus Motor is our all-round vertical awning and the easiest way to provide effective, exterior sun protection for windows. It is mounted vertically next to the window, balcony door, or facade and blocks the sun at the glass before the heat enters the room—significantly more effectively than interior curtains and blinds. The fabric runs in side channels along both sides of the window and is kept completely taut, making the awning quiet, stable, and durable even in windy conditions.
Awning Made to your specifications—up to 500 cm wide and 480 cm high—and delivered ready to install. The package includes the cassette, fabric, side channels, mounting brackets, and a motor with a remote control. You specify the width, height, profile colour, and fabric type in the configurator—and we’ll build awning exactly to fit your window.
Vertical awning It frames the window and follows the lines of the facade rather than standing out from them. The cassette is slim and rectangular, with no visible screws on the outside. You can choose from four profile colours—white, grey, black, and anthracite grey—and a curated selection of high-quality fabrics.
If you're looking for mood lighting built into the cassette, see Sensus LED. For a sunshade that operates entirely without electricity, see Sensus Solcell.
Sensus Motor is mounted either on the outside of the facade or recessed into the window niche, depending on what works best for your window. All brackets, side channels, and fasteners are included in the delivery, and the exterior design is screw-free. Awning weighs approximately 6.5–12 kg per running metre, depending on the cassette size, so we always recommend at least two people for installation—especially for wider models.
You can install the vertical awning yourself, but since the awning is motorised, the electrical connection must be made to a junction box by a licensed electrician in accordance with the electrical regulations that apply where you live.
Screws and wall plugs for installation are included in the delivery. For special surfaces or delicate façade materials, a different fixing may be needed—please contact us if you are unsure which option is suitable for your facade. For recessed installation, make sure the window can still be opened for ventilation without touching awning.
Sensus Motor is designed with reference to EN 13561, the European standard for external blinds and awnings. Its motorised zip-screen mechanism is designed for controlled raising and lowering.
The aluminium cassette is made of “ powder-coated ” in multiple surface-treated layers to withstand UV radiation, salty air in coastal locations, and Nordic temperature fluctuations without the paint peeling or the surface rusting. The fabrics are sourced from Sandatex, one of Europe’s leading textile manufacturers, and retain their colour, texture, and water-repellent properties throughout the awning’s entire lifespan.

The vertical awning requires minimal maintenance. The fabric is protected by the side channels whenever awning is raised, keeping it safe from rain and dirt for most of the year. Rinse the cassette with lukewarm water and mild soap once per season. The design is intended to remain in place year-round—nothing needs to be taken down for the winter—but please check fixing and the screws at the change of seasons, especially in exposed areas.

Before fitting a vertical awning to a house, check any planning requirements that apply locally. Listed buildings, conservation areas and flats may be subject to additional restrictions. If you rent or live in a managed building, seek any necessary consent from the landlord or building manager before installation.
