Frequently asked questions about Verto

Browse our frequently asked questions and answers, or contact one of our specialists, who are happy to help.

Verto is a fencing system with a framework of powder-coated aluminium posts, to which you add your own timber slats. The slats are not included, so you can choose the type of timber, colour and appearance you prefer – from narrow slats to wider boards. The result is timber fencing supported by an aluminium framework that will not rot.

The posts accommodate several common slat sizes: 28 × 45, 28 × 70, 28 × 120, 22 × 95 and 45 × 45 mm. The system can also follow corners that are not exactly 90 degrees by cutting the slats to the appropriate angle. Plan the post positions, slat dimensions and corners first, then choose the timber and finish to suit the style of your home.

There is no single fence height that applies everywhere. The permitted height depends on local rules, the location and how open or solid the fence is. A low, open fence may be assessed differently from a tall, solid boundary screen. Check the relevant local requirements before deciding on a height.

Location matters too: a fence beside a property boundary or facing a street may be assessed differently from one within the garden. Consider whether its purpose is to mark a boundary, contain children or pets, or provide privacy, and discuss your plans with neighbours where appropriate. On sloping ground, the fence may need stepped sections or to follow the contours of the land.

A balustrade can be installed on a variety of surfaces, but fixing must always be anchored to a stable, load-bearing structure—not just to the material visible on the surface. The correct fixing depends on the surface, balustrade system, and the structure’s design. On wooden and composite decking boards surfaces, posts must be anchored to the load-bearing joists beneath the boards.

Concrete and solid stone may provide suitable fixing points if their condition and load capacity are confirmed. Brick and lightweight concrete need anchors designed for the specific substrate. Avoid loose paving slabs, weak joints and unsuitable edge distances.

Measure each straight section and note corners, angles, openings and changes in level. A sketch with dimensions helps you plan sections, posts and fixings accurately.

It’s best to measure the finished surface, since decking and tiles can affect placement and height, and measure each side separately even if they look the same. Note the type of substrate the railing will be mounted on and where stairs, gates, and walkways are located. Oblique corners can be resolved by having straight sections meet at right angles. Double-check all measurements before placing your order.

Aluminium is a durable, low-maintenance material for outdoor balustrades. It resists corrosion well and performs in different weather conditions when the system and finish are appropriate for the location. A powder-coated balustrade does not normally need sanding or repainting.

For routine care, it is usually enough to clean the posts and profiles with water, a soft cloth and, if needed, a mild detergent. Near the sea, rinse away salt and dirt as required. Powder coating provides protection and colour, although weather and UV exposure can affect it over time. Aluminium being lightweight does not automatically make the balustrade less stable.

Product Information

Privacy screening and windbreaks – for decking, patios and gardens

Verto is a system of fence posts forming a sturdy framework for horizontal timber slats. The posts have integrated pre-drilled fixing positions to help keep the timber evenly spaced. The result is a consistent-looking fence, whatever suitable timber you select. The slatted design provides privacy while still allowing daylight through, creating an open feel in the garden or patio.

We manufacture posts to your specifications at our production facility in Ängelholm using powder-coated aluminium—a material chosen for its ability to withstand the Nordic climate without rusting. When you place an order, the fence posts are delivered to your home, while the wood itself is purchased separately. This allows you to choose the type of wood and dimensions yourself at slats to create a look that suits your home perfectly.

Design freedom for patios and gardens

The system can be used for anything from low boundary fences to tall privacy screens and trellises. The type of wood you choose gives the fence a different character, from a natural look to a clean, modern style. The posts form the foundation, while you choose the design.

  • fence posts: Aluminium that doesn't rust or peel.
  • 14 height options: A choice of post heights to help you design fencing for your space. Check any local planning restrictions before installation.
  • Wind and privacy screening: Integrated openings create shelter and privacy on your patio.
  • Swedish-made quality: Designed and manufactured in Ängelholm with a focus on sustainability.

*Please note that Verto includes the fence posts only. Timber slats must be purchased separately.

Common applications:

  • Deck fencing and timber decking – a boundary that offers security and style.
  • Garden privacy screening – privacy from neighbours or the road without making the space feel enclosed.
  • Windbreak for the patio —a sheltered spot that extends the outdoor season.
  • Property boundary – a stylish fence around your plot in the height you select.
  • Screen and trellis – a decorative way to divide different areas of the garden.

Installation

How to build a slatted fence – installing Verto

Verto is designed for self-installation, even if you have not built fencing before. Integrated grooves in the posts provide a guide for positioning the timber slats, making assembly straightforward without specialist tools.

Recommended post spacing: 1 ,400–1,650 mm (centre-to-centre distance), depending on the rib dimensions and desired stability.

Installation follows a clear step-by-step process:

  1. Measure and mark where the fence posts will be positioned along the fence line.
  2. Fix the posts and use a spirit level to check that they are vertical.
  3. Slide the timber slats into the grooves in the posts – the angle is set automatically.
  4. Secure the timber slats by screwing them in from the back of the posts.

Fixings to suit your project

When designing your fence, choose fixing based on the surface on which posts will be placed:

  • Timber screws – for secure fixing to decking or load-bearing timber joists.
  • Concrete fixings – expansion bolts or concrete screws for secure fixing into hard substrates such as concrete or stone.

After placing your order, you'll receive a link to an installation video that shows exactly how to install your specific system, with the details and fixings you've chosen.

Quality & Safety

Certified quality – made in Sweden in Ängelholm

Verto are manufactured at our own facility in Ängelholm, where we have full control over material selection, strength, and precision. By managing the entire process—from design to delivery—we ensure that every fence post meets the requirements for load-bearing aluminium building products.

The manufacturing process is certified in accordance with EN 1090-1 and complies with applicable Eurocodes for load-bearing capacity and performance. Production is continuously monitored by RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden), which is responsible for external verification of traceability, quality, and the manufacturing process.

Whether you're building it yourself or hiring a contractor, the certification provides added assurance that your fence is built to last.

Low-maintenance outdoor aluminium fencing

The fence posts are made of powder-coated aluminium—a material that does not rust, rot, or flake. Unlike pressure-treated wood posts, aluminium posts never need to be repainted, oiled, or replaced due to rot. This makes Verto a maintenance-free option that lasts a long time, even in humid and salty coastal environments.

The powder coating provides a smooth, UV-resistant surface designed to retain its colour over time. The posts are available in several colours, making it easy to coordinate your fence with your home.

Technical Information

Dimensions, specifications and documentation

Here you'll find technical information about Verto – our pole system made of powder-coated aluminium. We’ve compiled data on dimensions, compatibility, and planning to help you prepare for your order and installation.

Fencing height and planning permission: what to check

Whether planning permission is needed for a fence depends on its height, position and local requirements, particularly near roads or boundaries. Verto offers 1,100 mm posts and a choice of slat spacing, but these dimensions alone do not guarantee that your installation is exempt from permission. Check the rules that apply to your property before ordering.

Keep in mind that denser fence may be classified as a fence by your municipality, in which case different rules apply. Placing it within 4.5 metres of property boundary may require your neighbor’s written consent.

Always check with your local planning authority to find out what regulations apply to your specific property before you begin construction.

Symmetrical Sections
When you enter your measurements in our configurator, you always specify the edge dimensions at the location where you want the railing installed. Our configurator then makes the necessary adjustments. For your railing, we then adjust the section dimensions so that each section on either side is the same length. In other words, we customise the railing to fit your measurements—not the other way around.

Selectable fence height
In the configurator, you can choose a height of 500–1,800 mm, measured from the finished surface to the top of the fence.

Made to the millimetre
When you provide your measurements, please be as precise as possible—down to the millimetre. We’ll craft your railing to the millimetre so that it fits perfectly in the spot where you want to install it.

Complete installation kits
Our deliveries include everything needed for installation. Alongside posts and fittings, we supply screws, drill bits, driver bits and any special tools required. All you need is a screwdriver, adjustable spanner, tape measure and spirit level.

Assembly Videos and Instructions
The videos show various steps to help you with your assembly. Our assembly tips and videos are customised for each order. In other words, these are not general descriptions but are tailored specifically to your order.

Top mounting
The base is secured to the floor with 4 screws.

Screw for timber fixing
If you choose to fix into timber, screws are included for this purpose. The screw is made of hardened steel and, for outdoor use, is also surface-treated with Corrseal—Corrosion Class C4. The screw features a milled groove along the shank and one at the tip. This results in a very low tightening torque when driving the screw into harder wood and minimizes cracking.

Screw for concrete fixing
If you choose to fix into concrete, screws for this purpose are included. The screw is made of hardened steel and, for outdoor use, is also surface-treated with Corrseal—Corrosivity Class C4. Approved for use in cracked concrete, uncracked concrete, and hollow-core slabs. Also suitable for solid brick, hollow brick, solid Mexi brick, and natural stone.

Aluminium Parts
Posts or other aluminium parts require minimal maintenance. If stains appear, a mild detergent, water, and a soft cloth are usually sufficient. Do not use products with abrasive properties, acids, or

When you build your balustrade, its usage class (A, B, or C) indicates where the balustrade is suitable for use. The classes are based on UK building codes and standards such as BS 6180, combined with our own product testing, and take into account the choices you have made regarding balustrade height, section width, details, and so on. You can view the class as a recommendation to help you choose the right solution.

Class A

Suitable for all residential settings and public spaces such as offices, restaurants, and stores. Our Class A balustrades can withstand a linear load of at least 0.74 kN/m. Where the balustrade includes glass, it is safety glass, which helps prevent injury in the event of an impact.

Class B

Suitable for environments with a fall height between 0 and 1 meter. Our Class B balustrades can withstand a linear load of at least 0.5 kN/m. Where the balustrade includes glass, it is safety glass, which helps prevent injury in the event of an impact.

Class C

Suitable for installation at ground level. Where the balustrade includes glass, it is safety glass, which helps prevent injury in the event of an impact. A balustrade can also be classified as Class C if Balustrade Design and you, as the customer, make a change that deviates from our standard. Class C then means that this specific configuration has not been fully tested.
