Frequently asked questions about Simple

Browse our frequently asked questions and answers, or contact one of our specialists, who are happy to help.

Glass used in balustrades is designed to withstand normal seasonal changes, from summer heat to cold and frost. Glass panels may also flex slightly under wind loads without this necessarily indicating a fault. The effects depend on the glass type, panel size, fixings and edge finish. The glass is specified for outdoor use.

Rapid or substantial changes in temperature put more stress on glass than gradual changes – for example, when one part of a panel is warmed by the sun while the rest remains cold. Some movement in larger glass panels in windy conditions is normal and depends on their size, thickness and fixings. Frost alone should not cause a correctly specified glass balustrade to crack. The glass, fittings and fixings must all be suitable for the location.

No. Privacy screens and windbreaks serve different purposes, although one product can sometimes do both. A privacy screen reduces views into a space, while a windbreak provides shelter by reducing the wind reaching a deck, balcony or patio. The right choice depends on which issue matters most to you.

Position a privacy screen where people can see into your space and choose screening that provides sufficient privacy, such as frosted glass or closely spaced slats. A windbreak should be designed for the prevailing wind direction and height, with fixings suitable for the wind loads. Frosted or tinted glass can provide both shelter and privacy, while clear glass offers shelter without obstructing the view. Start with the problem you most want to solve.

The most common options are clear, opaque (opal) and tinted glass. Some systems also offer extra-clear and coloured glass. Your choice depends on the views, natural light, privacy and appearance you want. Clear glass preserves views and daylight, while extra-clear glass has less of a green tint.

Opal glass lets daylight through while obscuring details. Tinted glass, such as grey glass, creates a darker appearance and can offer some additional privacy. These glass options are also available for windbreaks. You can combine glass types in one project, for example clear glass facing the view and opal glass facing a neighbouring property.

The easiest way to clean a glass balustrade is with lukewarm water, a mild cleaning product and a soft microfibre cloth or window squeegee. Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners that may damage the glass surface or fittings. Cleaning frequency depends on the location: balustrades near the sea, roads or areas with high pollen levels may need more frequent cleaning.

A suitable water-repellent glass treatment can help reduce the build-up of dirt and limescale, but it does not replace cleaning. Wipe down glass clamps and stainless steel fittings with water and a mild detergent, following the product’s maintenance guidance.

Product Information

Glass screens for ground-level settings

Simple is a fixed-size glass screen for those who want to frame their outdoor space in a simple and discreet way. It creates clean lines without blocking the view and is used where a traditional glass balustrade is not needed. Since Simple is not a safety railing, it should only be installed at ground level where there is no risk of falling.

The system is delivered in pre-assembled sections with black aluminium posts and glass. It is our most affordable option when you want glass but do not need a safety-rated system.

Windbreaks and outdoor room dividers

Use Simple as a glass windbreak or a modern glass fence around paths and planting areas. It is an effective way to divide the garden into distinct zones without blocking views of the surroundings.

  • The most affordable option for framing with glass.
  • Provides shelter from the wind on ground-level patios.
  • Creates a sense of space outdoors.
  • Fixed-size sections for easy planning.
  • Preserves the view and natural light.

Installation

Installing fixed-section glass screens

Simple is designed to be easy to install, even for those who have never installed glass screens before. The system comes in ready-made modules that you can combine to fit your layout.

  1. Mark the positions of the posts on the supporting surface.
  2. Secure the posts with fixings suitable for the substrate.
  3. Fit the glass panels between the posts as shown in the instructions.
  4. Check the stability of the entire structure.

Fixings to suit your project

Screws and fixings are purchased separately based on the surface you're mounting on. Detailed instructional videos are available to guide you through each step of the installation process for your specific choices.

  • Wood screw: For fixing in wooden decking or load-bearing framing.
  • Concrete screw: For installation in concrete slabs, stone, or cast surfaces.

Installation videos

Below are examples from some of our installation videos. Once you've placed your order, you'll have access to videos that show you exactly how to install the balustrade based on your selections.

Quality & Safety

Certified Manufacturing

Simple is manufactured at our factory in Ängelholm, using the same quality-focused production processes as our other balustrade systems. Ready-made sections are produced to fixed dimensions for straightforward installation.

As a glass partition designed exclusively for ground level, the Simple falls under usage class C. Since the product is used in areas where there is no risk of falling, it is not subject to the same certification requirements as our safety railings. The system is optimised for environments without changes in level where there are no load-bearing or personal safety requirements.

Our ongoing inspections help ensure that each component is suitable for installation at ground level. Please note that this product is not intended for locations with a fall risk or specific fall-protection requirements.
