Choosing a balustrade means balancing architecture, surroundings and practical everyday needs. At Balustradedesign, we approach each project with care. We combine Scandinavian design with modern manufacturing at our factory in Ängelholm, Sweden, offering solutions for settings ranging from sheltered interiors to exposed coastal locations.
Whether you are planning a new patio or renovating a staircase, we can help you find a solution that combines durability with design. Each image shows how a particular project has been approached – from preserving wide sea views to creating discreet fall protection indoors.
Every part of a home has its own character, and the right balustrade can bring the architecture together. Start with how and where it will be used to find a suitable system.
Decking often becomes the heart of a home in summer. A glass balustrade around a deck can help shelter the seating area from wind without blocking light or the view. Arcus is one of our most popular systems for this combination.
When installing an outdoor balustrade, consider wind loading and how it will be fixed to the supporting structure. Fixings must be selected for the substrate and expected loads; timber decking boards alone are not a suitable structural fixing. Elevated balconies also require careful consideration of the applicable fall-protection and balustrade-height requirements.
Safety is a key consideration around pools. Glass can create a clear boundary without making the space feel enclosed. Toughened and laminated safety glass may be appropriate where specified for the installation; the interlayer helps retain fragments if the glass breaks. However, the suitability of a balustrade as a pool safety barrier must be assessed separately.
For a ground-level pool requiring a child-resistant enclosure, consider a purpose-designed fence rather than assuming any balustrade is sufficient. See our pool guide for planning considerations.
Indoors, the focus often shifts to finishes and the feel of the materials. A stair balustrade should be stable and complement the interior. An oak handrail can coordinate with the flooring – see our handrails and Lira – while a minimalist stainless steel wire balustrade such as Tenso creates a contemporary look.
Our made-to-measure components can accommodate a range of stair slopes and angles. For inclined staircases, Linea Step is designed to follow the angle of the stairs with a clean finish.
For waterfront properties and wind-exposed jetties, corrosion resistance is a key consideration. In marine environments, we use corrosion-resistant stainless steel designed to withstand moisture and salt exposure. Appropriate cleaning is still required – see our stainless steel balustrades.
Choosing suitable materials can also reduce ongoing maintenance. Balustrades in aluminium or stainless steel generally need periodic cleaning with water and a mild detergent. Our use classes help you compare documented load requirements and suitable configurations, including glass specifications, for your project.
If you already know which material you want, explore our range by material under all balustrades. For location-specific guidance, see balustrades for decking, balconies and stairs.

We have designed our systems to make self-installation more straightforward. Orders from our factory in Ängelholm include installation instructions and helpful video guides, so you can plan the work and understand the required steps. Always use fixings and tools suitable for the installation.
