A made-to-measure range for every setting—manufactured in Sweden

A balustrade is more than just a fall protection —it’s a permanent part of a home’s architecture that must withstand everything from everyday wear and tear to harsh Nordic weather conditions. At Balustradedesign, we’ve moved away from the industry’s traditional standard sizes. Because we own the entire production chain—from the digital drafting table to manufacturing at Ängelholm —we can ensure that every railing on your patio, balcony, or staircase fits your measurements exactly. This simplifies installation and guarantees a level of stability that off-the-shelf sections rarely match.

Our manufacturing process and workshop are certified by RISEEN 1090-1:2009+A1:2011—the harmonized standard for load-bearing steel and aluminium structures. This means that the entire manufacturing process is certified to produce load-bearing railing structures with documented quality and traceability.

Balustrades and balustrade systems

Protection and screening

  • Privacy screen – Frosted glass balustrade, dense aluminium slats, and adjustable systems for balconies and patios. See Flex.
  • Windbreaks – glass enclosures and permanent solutions that extend the outdoor season. See Elements.
  • Fence and gates – fence on the deck, around the property, or as an addition to railings. See Verto and gate Retro Gate.

Sun protection and awnings

Accessories and complementary products

  • Handrails – Supervisor and top rail in oak, stainless steel, or aluminium for stairs and indoor handrails. See Lira.
  • Glass fittings and clamps – for those who want to renovate an existing balustrade or add custom-made glass panels. See Core.
  • Simple – our simplified system for faster installation.

Which material should you choose?

The choice of material affects more than just the appearance. It determines how much work the balustrade will require over the next twenty years, and what it can withstand in your specific location.

  • Glass offers open views while helping to block the wind. Frameless options can be more expensive per metre, but provide a particularly unobstructed outlook.
  • Aluminium is powder-coated, resists corrosion, and does not need to be repainted. It offers the lowest total cost over time and the widest selection of colours.
  • stainless steel acid-resistant -grade steel is the only material we recommend for docks, waterfront properties, and pool edges.
  • Wire provides the least possible visual bulk, but is not recommended as a fall protection where small children are present.

If you want to compare the materials side by side, the easiest way to do so is under all balustrades.

Balustrades for decking, balconies, stairs and patios

Our product line is designed to meet all your home’s needs, whether you’re planning to build an outdoor balustrade or want to refresh your interior. By combining different materials and finishes, you can create a cohesive look throughout your home.

  • Balustrades for decking and patios —our best-selling collection. Glass balustrades to preserve the view, or slats for a more enclosed look.
  • Balcony balustrade —the most prominent drop height feature of any setting, and often designed to match the rest of the façade in a residential development.
  • Stair railing – The railing serves as both fall protection and a handrail, and must follow the slope of the stairs. It should be combined with a handrail at the correct height.
  • Indoor railing – for lofts, sleeping lofts, and open-plan floors. The combination of glass and oak creates a warm, tactile feel that softens the modern look of the glass.
  • Pool balustrade – helps define the pool area, but should not be assumed to serve as a compliant pool safety barrier. Choose materials suited to exposure to chlorine and moisture.
  • Balustrades for jetties and lakeside properties – corrosion-resistant materials and fixings are particularly important in exposed locations. Check the specification for the intended environment.

If you already have a straight, sturdy wooden frame, you don’t need to build a new one. With custom-made glass panels and glass clamps, you simply replace the infill—see glass and glass clamps.
If you’d like to learn more about how to choose the right product for your space, start with our railing guide, patio guide, balcony guide, or staircase guide. For pools, there’s the pool guide, and for awnings , the sunshade guide.

Safety, use classes, and durability in every detail

Fall protection is central to our balustrade design. We use our own use classes (A+, A, B and C) to describe the loads documented for different configurations, from private homes and balconies to public spaces. The use class appears in our 3D configurator as you design your balustrade. It is a product-selection guide, not confirmation of compliance with every local building regulation; suitability must be assessed for the intended installation.

We use laminated safety glass depending on the product and your choice for all our glass panels—two glass panels glued together with a strong plastic film that holds the glass in the frame even if, against all odds, it were to be subjected to extreme external forces. This level of safety is crucial when dealing with significant drop heights or in homes with children.

An investment in Balustradedesign also means an investment in sustainability. By using long-lasting materials and manufacturing everything locally in Sweden, we reduce unnecessary transportation and ensure full control over quality. For more detailed information about our safety efforts and usage classes, read more under Safety and Testing or in safety guide.
