Forma glass balustrade for a Zenergy residential development

Published Last updated About a 3-minute read

In collaboration with Zenergy, Balustradedesign has supplied a complete balustrade solution for a project of two identical blocks of flats. In new-build projects it is important to choose products that combine modern design with good quality and a long service life. Here the choice was the Forma glass balustrade.

What was included in the project?

The project involved installing the same railing system on two identical buildings. The system was designed to be affordable, easy to maintain, and quick to install.

Product
Glass balustrade Forma.
Scope
Installation on two identical building structures.
Features
Focus on price, easy maintenance, and quick installation.
Flexibility
The sections can be customised to match the architecture of the buildings and the dimensions of the balconies.

Why is Forma a good fit for housing projects?

For a large-scale project, choosing the right railing is an important part of the cost estimate. Forma offers an affordable solution made of aluminium, a material designed for outdoor use that does not rust like iron and steel. It is suitable both as balcony balustrade and as decking balustrade.

For property owners and condominium associations, maintenance is an important issue. An aluminium and glass railing is generally easier to maintain than a timber railing, which can affect management costs over time. Always follow the product’s maintenance instructions.

Forma can also be fixed in two ways, which makes it easier to adapt the solution to the conditions of the floor structure.

Top-mounted assembly

Mounting with the base on top of the surface

The railing is mounted with one foot on the top surface of the floor joists. It fits where the surface is accessible and load-bearing.

Side mounting

Mounting on the outside of the edge

The railing is mounted on the outside of the edge, which can be a good choice when you want to make the most of the space on your balcony or deck.

How can windbreak provide residents with greater comfort?

If it gets very windy on a deck or balcony, you can install windbreak on selected sections of the railing. A common solution is to place windbreak closest to the house wall, creating a sheltered area.

The windbreak in the Forma series has the same profile and appearance as the rest of the balustrade, so that the whole looks cohesive. It provides a practical solution for a deck or balcony in a windy location. Available heights are shown on the product page.

What colour options are available for the posts?

The colour of the railing should complement the facade's details. Posts to Forma offers several standard designs that meet most needs.

Natural aluminium
Anodised finish that preserves the natural look of aluminium.
White and black
Two neutral colours that complement many building facades.
Shades of grey
Several shades of grey, including a textured grey, for those who prefer a more subdued look.

If the architect specifies a particular colour to match window frames or metal trim, we offer the Colour, where you can choose the colour yourself. The right shade is a small detail that makes a big difference to the building’s overall appearance.

What type of glass is suitable for a block of flats?

For fall protection in blocks of flats, the glass is one of the most important parts. Our glass balustrades are supplied with laminated glass with ground and polished edges. Laminated glass consists of two glass panes with a tough plastic film in between. If the glass were to break, the film holds the pane together so that the glass does not fall down in pieces.

Clear glass
Provides maximum light and an unobstructed view.
Opal (frosted) glass
Provides privacy while letting light through.
Grey-tinted glass
Provides a modern finish with a subdued look.
Sections with windbreak
In sections with windbreak, toughened and laminated glass is used, since the glass in those areas is subjected to greater wind loads.

A railing solution for modern residential projects

Forma is a balustrade solution that combines value for money, flexible fixing and the option of a windbreak and a choice of colours. This makes it well suited to modern housing projects such as Zenergy’s.
